Mindset is Overrated and often Misused

The Overrated Cult of Mindset

Mindset is like the nutritional supplement of the business world.

Between cold plunges, AG1 and cooling mattresses there exists mindset.

It's proclaimed as a cure-all for every ailment in your professional life.

Feeling stuck?

Change your mindset.

Not making sales?

Must be your mindset.

While the role of mindset can't be entirely dismissed, let's get real: it's not the magic pill that some gurus and influencers make it out to be.

The Good Times Distraction

When business is booming, when the leads are flowing, revenue is consistent and easy, and when you're on a success streak, mindset becomes this touchy-feely concept everyone loves to revere.

"It's all about the mindset," they say, in between moments of mediation and a dopamine detox.

My observation is during good times, the concept of mindset becomes a distracting crutch.

It’s what you lean on to explain your success while overlooking real, actionable factors like strategy, market conditions, or just plain luck.

Mindset in these situations is like the whipped cream on your Frappuccino.

Nice to have? Sure. Essential? Not by a long shot. People get so wrapped up in "having the right mindset" that they divert attention from actionable strategies that drive their success.

The Hard Times Hypocrisy

Fast forward to the not-so-rosy periods—

the sales slumps,

the low engagement rates,

the negative feedback,

crashing economies,

high inflation

and dipping recessions.

All of a sudden, that celebrated mindset goes out the window faster than an NFT went of style.

When the going gets tough, people suddenly turn to grinding and hustling, trying out every "foolproof" tactic they see inside the social feed.

Where's your beloved mindset now?

You see, when faced with real challenges, many realize that mindset alone won't pay the bills.

However, instead of adapting a balanced approach that includes mindset along with strategy and execution, people often throw the baby out with the bathwater.

They forget mindset altogether and adopt a frenzied approach, trying to fix everything but fixing nothing in the process.

The Reality Check

Having the right mindset is important; it’s the foundation upon which you can build something significant and stay there with.

But let's not fool ourselves. It's just that—a foundation.

You wouldn't sleep on a foundation, would you? You need walls, a roof, windows, and a damn door.

Mindset is the starting point, but it’s not the journey or the destination. When times are good, attributing success solely to mindset is naive. When times are bad, dismissing mindset as unimportant is equally flawed.

What you need is a balance—a blend of the right attitude, coupled with effective strategies and actionable tactics.

Mindset: It can be a crutch, a distraction, or even an excuse. But it’s rarely the sole determinant of your success or failure.

Here’s 4 things you can do right now:

1. LEADS (GET TO 6 FIGURES): PROGRAMS & COURSES

2. LEVEL UP (GET 6 FIGURES+ ): COACHING

3. LEVEL UP ACCELERATOR: ONE DAY DEEP DIVE

4. LEVERAGE (TIME BACK FOR 6+, 7 FIGURES): LET DARIN DO IT
