What Are You Becoming The Master Of? - Productivity Nugget #163

“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”- Bruce Lee

I'm a big fan of .

I have written blog posts about Bruce Lee before here.

One of my favorite things about Bruce Lee and the idea of is .

That's why I love his quote, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 once, but I fear the man who has practiced one 10,000 times.”

Bruce Lee is saying he fears someone that has worked on mastery.

Would Bruce Lee fear you?

The Speed Of Change

Malcolm Gladwell says in his book Outliers: The Story of Success (affiliate link) that it takes 10,000 hours to master something.

Bruce Lee talks about 10,000 kicks.

What are you doing that is consistent? How are you working towards mastery?

The world doesn't make it easy to master things now a days. You seem to be encouraged to find and discover new things. Its more sexy to be an early adopter and be the first in your online social network or in your office to be using a new tool or app.

But that doesn't seem like mastery does it?

Not the way Bruce Lee or Malcolm Gladwell is defining it.

Mastery is what will take your business to the next level. No matter what level you are at. But you'll need to recognize that mastery is hard and not always fun.

You will have to take consistent focused action to achieve mastery. You might have to stop chasing the fun new technology or the sexy new app.
